Where we obtain your information

Your information will be stored on our secure UK server so that we may offer a consistent service to you from any of our branches and manage your relationship with us.

This will include information you have provided:

  • a) when making an application to us.
  • b) when registering for services.
  • c) in letters, emails, telephone calls and conversations with us in branch.

Or from Credit Reference and/or Debt Collection Agents where:

  • d) we need to trace you in the pursuit of monies owed to us.
  • e) your account has been referred to a Collection Agent in the pursuit of monies owed to us.

Your information will be kept for as long as is necessary for the management of your account, or for as long as is required to meet legal and regulatory requirements.

How we use your information

Your information will be processed:

  • a) to validate your identity when you contact us, whether by telephone, online, in writing or in person.
  • b) when you request it.
  • c) in the processing of an application you have made.
  • d) for the necessary management of your accounts.
  • e) to detect and manage arrears on a loan or other credit service you have obtained from us.
  • f) for analytical purposes to assess and improve the services we provide; in the case of analytical processing, data will be anonymized where possible.

Automated processing

Community First Credit Union Ltd does not use automated decision making when processing any application for a credit service or loan.

Community First Credit Union Ltd uses automated decision making when processing new membership applications submitted via our online service. Should you not wish for your application to be processed using automated means, please visit your local branch to make your application. In the event the automated process rejects your application, you may make an application to be manually processed by visiting your local branch.

Sharing your information

We will treat your information with the utmost confidence. However we may need to share your information from time to time. We will only do so where:

  • a) you have consented to, or requested your information be shared.
  • b) we are required to do so by law, for example for crime detection, prevention or prosecution.
  • c) regulating bodies require it.
  • d) in the pursuit of monies you owe us.
  • e) the third party is connected with your account, for example where we manage a grant or loan to you from a local authority.
  • f) it is required as part of our duty to protect your accounts and deposits, for example we are required to share information with the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).

Credit Reference Agencies

Your information may be passed to third party referencing agencies for the purposes of:

  • a) validating the information you have provided when applying for membership via our online service.
  • b) determining credit worthiness and affordability when you apply for a loan or credit service.
  • c) tracing you in the event of default on a loan or credit service.

Sensitive information

Some personal information is considered to be more sensitive than others; for example ethnic origin, religious and political beliefs, mental or physical health conditions.

In most cases we will not ask you for this information, however in some cases it may be necessary; for example we may need to consider your health when assessing a loan application.

Should we ask you for sensitive information, or you volunteer such information, it will only be used for the purpose for which it was gathered.
